Training Academy

Training Pod

The training pod is both virtual and face to face and its aim is to develop confident and competent nursing teams offering support and mentorship to complete either the Greater Manchester (GM) Nursing Digital Passport or other equivalent training. Practitioners new to General Practice will be invited to complete relevant modules whilst being supported, mentored and “signed off” by our General Practice Nurse Mentors.

The digital passport is a GM based on-line training programme consisting of a number of modules. Practitioners can choose the most relevant to their work.

Our Training staff

Sam Howard

I have worked within primary care for 21 years, starting my career as a business administration apprenticeship, and currently work as an advanced clinical practitioner after attaining a masters degree in advanced practice in 2017. I am passionate about primary care and education. Within general practice, there is no referral or discharge criteria, caring for patients from cradle to grave. This amazing and unique workplace enables us to have the biggest impact on patient care and outcomes. Working across primary care networks and the local borough has enabled me to deliver patient services and education at scale, offering the best outcomes to a larger footprint of population. Working as a clinical leader within primary care I have been able to demonstrate this impact within our community, and as such, attained the Queens Nurse Award in 2023. My career journey enabled me to gain understanding at every level of the primary care workforce, so that I can offer practical solutions to daily problems, ensuring a confident and competent workforce delivering the best patient outcomes. This passion for both education and the best care delivery inspired the Health First Training Academy concept, delivering bespoke training to primary care staff across our borough.

I joined Health First in May 2023 as PCN Liaison Lead. With over 16 years of experience in healthcare I have gained a lot of experience and knowledge that I can bring to Health First. Upon joining Health First, I have enjoyed working closely and supporting our local Primary Care Networks. I have since taken on further role within the Health First Training Academy working alongside our Clinical Leads to provide Practices and PCN with a variety of different education and training needs. I am thoroughly enjoying working at Health First and working with such an amazing team.
